Have you ever wondered about what musicals you should see? Well wonder no more! Come with me for a night at the musicals!
Different Age Groups
While most musicals are appropriate for all ages some have ratings. Like Six, Rent and Hamilton, all have an age rating. This is because they either swear, talk about inappropriate topics, tragic situations or demonstrate intimate behaviour. The age rating for Matilda is 6+. Wicked is 7+. Six is 10+, Hamilton is 10+ and over and Rent is 13+. This is because they may contain some adult/ older child humour or something that an 8 year old wouldn’t understand.
Different Genres
From comedy to thriller there is something for everyone. If you like comedy and lots of songs but don’t mind some tragic events/inappropriate behaviour Hamilton is for you. Also like Hamilton is Six the musical which I deeply recommend because it is an amazing show. It’s also only 80 minutes long which is good if you prefer shorter shows! But if you like more of a play then just songs I recommend Wicked, which has lots of songs but also dialogue.
Different Price Ranges
Different Musicals have different price ranges. If you want a cheaper musical, I recommend Six which is normally £50 a ticket in the west end at the Vaudeville Theatre. Seeing a show on tour is usually cheaper as it is in a local theatre.
Here are some characters and their descriptions:
Alexander Hamilton: Alexander is the main character in Hamilton. In the show he meets Eliza who he later cheats on with Mariah Reynolds. For more drama, Eliza’s sister, Angelica has a crush on Hamilton until she finds out he cheated on Eliza. Hamilton is based on a true story.
Jane Seymour: The 3rd wife of Henry VIII. In the musical Six, she sings a song about her journey meeting Henry and having her son. The song is called Heart of Stone. A sad fact is that she died a few days after birthing her son. Jane Seymour was a real person, and not just any person, but a Tudor queen.
Glinda: Glinda is from the musical Wicked and also seen in The Wizard of Oz. In Wicked she is a popular girl at her school called Shiz. Part of her popularity was formed as she “volunteered” to room with Elphaba where she really just wanted to ask a question. But along the way Elphaba and Glinda become best friends.
This is just a guide to some of the most popular musicals and you may enjoy others more.
