Aladdin Jr: Was it Cave of Wonder-ful?

By Fallon McGahon

It’s that time of year again! I’m going to be giving you all the behind the scenes of putting on this Aladd-incredible production! This production was the final one for a few students at this school, including me. This article is going to go into the usual interviews of hand selected actors in the school show.

The first question I asked these brilliant actors was which character they played and if they enjoyed it. Liam Gibson played Aladdin and enjoyed it very much. He particularly found it enjoyable but a bit stressful because there was a lot to learn although the fun and enjoyment outweighed any stress this character gave. Grace Coulson played the Genie and also really enjoyed it because it was improvisation based and she feels like it’s a role that fits her personality. Izzy Ferguson played Jafar and enjoyed it because it was fun being evil and someone she’s not.

The second question I asked these actors was if they auditioned for the characters they were cast as, and if not then who? Liam did audition for Aladdin but also auditioned for Genie which he would have done amazing at. Grace didn’t audition for Genie and instead auditioned for Iago, which she would have also done brilliantly at. Izzy also auditioned for Iago but also auditioned for Genie, she would have done brilliant at both.

The third question I asked them was if they could play any other character, which one and why? Liam said he would play Genie because he could make it his own along with the comedic attributes he could give it. Grace said she would play Prince Abdullah because “he’s a diva”, which is honestly very true. Izzy said she would play Genie or Iago because they are comedic, amusing and have fun lines.

The final question I asked was if they had any inside jokes between other actors or if they had something that just made sense to other cast members of Aladdin Jr. Liam said that a running joke between him and other cast members is that they always tell him he clearly doesn’t know his lines because they know it annoys him but he’s also quite last minute with learning them. Grace said that her inside jokes were the “Genie Stance” which is a popped hip with a hand on the hip and Genie’s most iconic line “No, I’m from Cramlington”. Izzy's character has a staff that has a snake wrapped around the top half. One of the actors freaked out at the snake and when Izzy started talking in her scary Jafar voice he would usually run away but this time decided to kiss the snake, which was witnessed first hand by me!

I added this question because it’s my last school show article and I wanted it to be fun to write and really amusing to read. Every school show will have a dear place in my heart and I will always miss them.
