What is Harry Potter?

By Melissa Burr, Writer

The wizarding world is an amazing place, and the books and films really help you transport yourself there, and find yourself inside the stories.

Whether you are transported by the books, or the magical world of the big screen, Hogwarts will always be in your heart. The Harry Potter series is a truly breathtaking saga, with wild creatures, ghosts and ghouls, and yet so sad when it has to be. If you are a former ‘potter head’, you will know the true brilliance of the wizarding world, and all its glory. But to those few people who haven’t watched or read the books, which can often be found in the JLV library, read on to find out more about it, and you may even learn something new that you didn’t know before about the series and the iconic golden trio!

Firstly I want to say that if you are interested in the magical world, and are planning to watch the films, you should definitely watch them in order!

  • Philosopher's Stone

  • Chamber of Secrets

  • Prisoner of Azkaban

  • Goblet of Fire

  • Order of the Phoenix

  • Half Blood Prince

  • Deathly Hallows Part 1

  • Deathly Hallows Part 2

  • Cursed Child, (coming out soon)

This list does vary in the books though, with the Deathly Hallows being only one part. In my opinion, the books are the best escape to Hogwarts, but the films are amazing too, and are easily my favourite movies! They are for ages around 7 and up, as I enjoy watching them with my older and younger sisters, and my grandad, who's really old!

Did you know?

Did you know, Dumbledore's full name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore? I was also sad to hear that J.K rowling regrets having a relationship between Ron and Hermione. Why? She thought they were an opposites attract couple, whereas Harry and Ginny were more like soulmates!

J.K Rowling

The author known as J.K Rowling is a legend at most, creating the series, but many dislike her as she is known to be transphobic, and has even posted rude and hateful comments on social media. This could be a result of her poverty and heartbreak before fame, but is this really an excuse? Personally, I don’t think so, but I do take pity on her, and I really am grateful for Harry Potter.

I hope my article has inspired you to go out to your local library and read the series, or for you to invest a small portion of money into one of the films! Whatever you do, Harry Potter will always be there to transport you to Hogwarts, a school many have come to call “home.”
