Symbiotes are fictional characters that were created by Marvel Comics writers Roger Stern, Tom DeFalco, Mike Zeck and David Michelinie. Their comics origin was at the start of time where there was darkness and in that darkness Knull was born. Knull was banished into what is called the Abyss then he, knowing only pain and suffering, made friends with the so-called symbiotes and named his new home Klyntar (the symbiote word for "cage"). Also known informally as the Planet of the Symbiotes, Klyntar is an artificial planet, located in an uncharted sector of space and so is not on any known maps.
When Knull created the symbiotes he planned to use them as his own private army controlled by a hive mind with him as their leader. In the end they fought back and made their entire life devoted to keeping Knull trapped in their planet which is why they call it Klyntar. Knull often finds ways to escape - most of the time using his telepathic link to some symbiotes who still hold onto that crazy drive to create carnage (like Carnage).
When the symbiotes were free of Knull’s control, they found out that without Knull on over worlds they would have to bind to creatures and use a host as life support. This means they would even eat their organs if they weren't the correct genetic code.
The symbiotes’ biggest enemy is a race called the poissons which are little creatures who bond with the symbiotes and use the host. We see this in the comic series ‘Venomverse’ where venoms are taken to the poissons’ home world in a quest to destroy every last one of the creatures. However, that goes a little south! Symbiotes’ main weaknesses are sound and fire.
Some of the main symbiotes are: Venom, Riot, Carnage, Scream, Toxin, Anti-venom, Hybrid, Mania, Agent Venom and Knull.
