The Royal Navy is one of the most valuable military tools at Britain's disposal, ranging from Destroyers, Frigates, Minehunters, Assault ships to even Aircraft Carriers! To say it's valuable to the UK is an understatement. Sadly up until recently the Navy was struggling as 6 vessels were decommissioned from March 2022 to March 2023. Thankfully things have been looking up in recent years.
It was announced in May that a programme has been launched to construct 28 new vessels. These include 6 new amphibious warships for the Royal Marines and many ships and submarines for the Royal Navy, which has been dubbed “the golden age” of shipbuilding by the Defence Secretary. This new programme will also be introducing 8 new Type 26 Frigates said to be delivered to the Royal Navy in the mid 2020s.
Many of these vessels are said to be finished construction in late 2026 and said to be ready for operation in 2028. More benefits of this programme include ships requiring less people to operate/maintain them. With many Frigates currently in development as well such as the Type 32 the future is beginning to look bright once again for the Royal Navy. As it is once again expanding and improving upon its Navy.
So for students in lower years there has never been a better time to consider the Navy as a career choice in the future, with its now on the rise amount of ships and relative demand of people needed. The Navy is certainly open for new hands on deck!
