Showing off Northumberland's spectacular scenery!

By: Libby Martin

The Phoenix photography competition was the first of its kind in 2022 and it was a huge success, all thanks to the amount of sheer talent the students that entered the competition have! We are so pleased with the entries we have gotten, but unfortunately not everyone can win. So, without further ado, here's the top three...

1st place goes to Finley Brians with this fantastic photo below. We have picked Finley for first place because of his clear talent for photography. This photo has everything we were looking for including focus, angle and most importantly, a great centrepiece. Well done Finley!

In 2nd place we have picked Olivia Fryatt. This is because we loved the choice of landscape. Keep up the great work Olivia!

In joint 3rd place we have picked Jensen Wicks and Amalie Keefe. With Jensen's entry, we really loved the use of a blurred background. We also thought the camera angle used was very good. Thanks for the entry!

For Amalie’s we loved the lighting and the use of all the space, the blossom trees really complimented the scene and showed the beauty of spring! Great work Amelie!

In fourth place is Isabelle Ferguson. We really liked this photo Isabella, thank you for your entry!

Here are our top 5 tips for nature photography:

  1. Use all of the space or blur unwanted backgrounds out/adapt them into the picture.

  2. Make the photo focus on one thing - think of what you want the eye catching part of the photo to be.

  3. Get a good angle because you don’t want part of your centrepiece cut out.

  4. Make sure the lighting is good - you don't want the picture to be too dark to see.

  5. Finally, try and get the best position for your main centrepiece.

These tips will help you to produce an amazing photograph!

Thank you all for your entries, they were all fantastic!
