As most of you know, Putin’s war against Ukraine has resulted in 3,393 innocent Ukrainian lives lost. Almost all nations are against this harrowing, disturbing invasion and show solidarity for the Ukraine in many ways. Firstly, the world has shown solidarity for the people in Ukraine by lighting famous landmarks up in the Ukrainian national colours of blue and yellow. Some landmarks include: The London Eye, Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square, Number 10 Downing Street and The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. People have also put flags in windows, usually saying the phrase “I stand with Ukraine”.
Many companies and organisations have enforced restrictions in Russia to demonstrate their support for Ukraine. An example of this is the company Disney who have banned Disney+ in Russia. Some of these self-bans can be hard though, since many companies may have a large income from Russia. Another company who has done this is Adidas. In 2017, Adidas made 132,259.000 RUB which is only worth £1143.18 today as the Russian ruble has crumbled because of the war in Ukraine. Many other companies have done the same such as IKEA. Without major brands, Russia’s economy will probably suffer and replacement brands can be hard to put up as these brands are used a lot in day to day life.
Moreover, tens of thousands have protested in London for solidarity towards Ukraine. Furthermore, other actions have been made to help Ukraine are such as the raising of donations (which are usually cash as this is the most effective donation) to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal. In addition to this, some people are taking in Ukrainian refugees into their home.
