Five Books to Put on Your TBR This Summer!

By Chloe Gargett-Brown

Are you stuck on what to read this summer? Well this is the place for you! In this article you will find five book recommendations for this summer or whenever you’re in need of a book recommendation.

Personally, I can’t think of anything better than a fluffy romance to read in the sun, if you can relate I recommend you check out Better than the movies by Lynn Painter. This romance follows childhood frenemies Liz Buxbaum and Wes Bennet through a very eventful period of time in their lives. Romcom lover Liz is searching for her true love and with a familiar face returning to town, she sees the perfect opportunity for her happy ever after. In order to get her potential film ending, she enlists the help of childhood frenemy Wes. With a plan of action in place will Liz find her future husband in Micheal or will love be found where it’s least expected? With childhood friends, enemies to lovers and fake dating tropes this truly is the romance of all romances!

Maybe you're not into a basic romance and would rather be transported to a world of magic fairy tales and danger. If this sounds like more your cup of tea Kaylnn Bayron’s Cinderella is dead might be for you! Set in a dystopian post-Cinderella world the story follows Sophia, an ordinary girl awaiting the same fate as every girl in Lille. In an attempt to break the cycle Sophia rebels against the strict societal rules of Lille and goes on the run. With the help of friends and a little bit of magic will Sophia be able to free the children of Lille? With a small helping of romance and plenty of action this read is perfect for those wanting a magical yet sinister escape from reality.

Want to get your brain working? The naturals written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes might just do the trick. Lynn Barnes brings her pacey and dramatic writing style seen in her bestselling series the inheritance games to a new and exciting series. The first of a trilogy The naturals follows Cassie Hobbs as she is recruited to a FBI project looking into young and exciting prospects for the service. When things start relating to the suspicious death of Cassie's mother she has no choice but to investigate herself. Filled to the brim with twists and turns this mystery will without a doubt get your brain going. Packed full of quirky and loveable characters, what more could you want?

It might be that you crave some action whilst relaxing this summer. If so, Holly Jackson’s Five Survive could just be perfect for you. Best known for her series A good girl's guide to murder Jackson follows with an equally amazing stand alone novel. In which a group of teenagers hire a RV for a camping holiday, what could go wrong? They end up being held hostage by snipers, that's what! Whilst stuck in a precarious situation secrets are spilled and tensions are raised. Past troubles are brought back for main character Red, will she get out unscathed? And is this just a random attack or are there bigger forces at play?

None of these took your fancy yet? Maybe historical fiction is for you! A good introduction to the genre is A spy for the Queen of Scots written by Theresa Breslin. Set in the Tudor era, the novel follows young Lady Jenny, the closest childhood friend of Mary queen of Scots. It explores Mary's struggle for power throughout her reign as well as her more personal matters from the perspective of a friend. Plenty of drama, a healthy dose of conflict and a light splattering of romance, this book really has it all. A very insightful and intellectual read, that will no doubt lead you to be obsessed with the Tudors for the rest of your summer!

Well I hope reading this has given you some more books to add to your to be read (TBR) list for this summer. Happy reading!
