Friends first aired 28 years ago and yet it is still very popular on various streaming platforms. Recently, a Friends reunion was released with Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimer, Matthew Perry and Mat LeBlanc all taking part. The successful series lasted 10 seasons and took 10 years to film. Lisa Kudrow has starred in: Table 19, The Boss Baby, P.S I love you, Hotel for Dogs and lots more. Mat LeBlanc has starred in: Man with a Plan, Top Gear, The Powerpuff Girls and lots more. Jennifer Aniston has starred in: We’re the Millers, Marley and Me, Horrible Bosses, Storks and lots more. Courtney Cox has starred in, Ace Ventura, The Runner, Scream and lots more. David Schwimmer has starred in: Tangled, Madagascar, Intelligence and lots more. Matthew Perry has starred in: Call me Anna, Sydney, Mr Sunshine, The Good Wife and lots more.
The Passing of James Michael Tyler
Unfortunately, James Michael Tyler (Gunther) passed away on 24th of October 2021 after 3 years of suffering with stage 4 cancer. He passed at age 59 in his home in Los Angeles. He was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in June, 2018 after a routine physical exam.
Other Cast members
Jane Sibbett (Carol) showed up in 15 episodes playing Ross Geller’s lesbian ex-wife and mother of his first child, Ben. Maggie Wheeler (Janice) was the annoying ex-girlfriend of Chandler, and showed up in 19 episodes. Cole Sprouse ( Ben) is now 29 years old.
Unknown Facts
~ Janice’s signature catchphrase was “Oh.My.God” and even though those words were said 1069 times, only 16 of them were said by Janice.
~ Chandler’s last words in the series are `Sure. Where?’ He said these words as an inside joke amongst the cast as the set of Central Perk ( the place they always went for coffee) had been knocked down.
~ Courtney Cox was first asked to play the role of Rachel Green but resisted because she wanted to play Monica’s “strong” character.
~Ross’s script was wrote for David Schwimmer’s voice as the producer, Kevin Bright, had already done some work with him before.
~ Friends was actually filmed in front of a live audience of 300 hundred fans, except for when there were cliffhangers. And that's the way the cast preferred it. “It’s kind of like a test to see if the material works, if the jokes work, if the story tracks.” said Matt LeBlanc. Matthew Perry agreed, “Our energy just elevates every time there’s an audience.”
~ During the first season, each cast member was receiving around $22,000 per episode. But allegedly, by the second season, each actor had a slightly different salary. In 1997, all cast members refused to work until they all earned an equal salary of $100,000 per episode.
~ It was widely publicised that Lisa Kudrow was afraid of the duck who made an appearance in season three.
~ Ross’s monkey, Marcel, was actually played by two monkeys: Monkey and Katie. Marcel was written out of the show in season two because it became too time-consuming to shoot scenes with a monkey. According to Katie’s trainer, Nerissa Politzer, Monkey was once supposed to pick up a bra but instead threw it at Jennifer Aniston!
