Environment Week: Find Out How Celebrities Are Supporting The Environment

This article highlights some of the celebrities who are supporting the environment and how they are doing so.


James Cameron






Famous for films such as Avatar, Titanic, and Terminator, Cameron uses his status to give awareness to environmental causes through social media. He says, ‘our hearts are breaking for what’s happening in the oceans’.








Leonardo DiCaprio








Established in 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio foundation is protecting wild environments through giving grants, campaigning, and media projects. In 2013 he awarded the World Wildlife Fund $3 million to help double the Tiger population in Nepal by 2022.








Cate Blanchett





Blanchett has recently starred as Hela, Goddess of Death, in Thor: Ragnarok. But it is her work successfully campaigning for the The Warf, Sydney, to install solar panels and one of the world’s largest rainwater collection systems that has earned her a place on this list.











Evanna Lynch







Reaching fame during her time as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter franchise, Lynch strongly supports veganism and advocates better treatment of animals speaking about ‘practices aligning with principals’.

Jamie Adenuga is a Grime artist and co-founder of Boy Better Know. Both teetotal and vegan, Adenuga starred in the 2017 film Carnage: Swallowing the Past a film set in a vegan Britain where the older generations ask for forgiveness for their meat-eating ways in the past.






Emma Watson





Hermione Granger actress, Emma Watson, often speaks out for causes she cares about such as the He for She campaign inviting men speak up about gender inequality as well as women. Calvin Klein and Eco-Age teamed up to make a dress for Watson for the 2016 Met Gala. She has also described her shock at the fact that only 1% of the world’s cotton production is Fair Trade.







Maisie Williams







Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams is a strong supporter of animal rights and is an ambassador for the Dolphin Project. She worked with the project and Harry Styles to promote the #DontGoToSeaWorldCampaign in 2015.
