Do You Want to Skate into a New Hobby?

By Bret Turnbull

Do you want to start a new hobby different from the common bike or scooter? Try a skateboard!

Where to start with skateboarding:

Select a suitable board and protection gear and make sure they fit you properly before getting on your board. In your first week of skateboarding you should practise riding the board and then start doing simple standing tricks. Once you have mastered the basics then you can try going down ramps using the right stance. You should practise everyday for at least 20 mins. Make sure you stop before getting frustrated!

Positives of skateboarding:

You can look cool even without tricks (as as cool as Tony Hawk after if you work hard at it!) Skateboarding also gets you outside more which is better than just sitting in the house all day. Skateboarding is actually great cardiovascular exercise that helps to increase endurance and burn calories. Some people may say it's dangerous, but it builds up your perseverance and it is a good way to meet new friends and learn brand new skills!

Overall

I think there are a lot of positives to take up skateboarding as a new hobby. Just believe in yourself and you'll be halfway there! If you're a fast learner you may be able to pick it up very quickly. Also, make sure you have good kit (to keep you safe in case of an accident). So stay safe, have fun and skate on!
