Pass the time with revision and these exciting methods. Remember to stay safe, stay indoors.
With the novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 on the loose, more and more people are self-isolating and keeping indoors. Schools will officially be cancelled after Friday and staying indoors with the family is one step closer to eventual cabin fever.
1. Check out a live stream
With more and more people staying at home and self-isolating, people are finding new ways to stay interested, one of these ways being checking out a live stream. You can watch the whales in British Columbia's Johnstone Strait at Blackfish Sound. Similarly, check out the puppy playroom which is a live stream of puppies playing all day long: live stream of puppies playing all day long.
2.Play an instrument
If you own an instrument, feel free to practice for what may be the first time in forever, your neighbours may hate it but you can simply ignore that.
3.Sleep
If you’re in year 11 or 13, you may be devastated about all the work you did for your GCSEs or A-levels going to waste so instead of worrying, take the chance to catch up on some sleep and get some rest.
4. Meditation
If you haven't already, try meditation. It provides many health benefits and can reduce stress which will be vital if you are spending an extended period of time with your family.
5. Multiplayer online games
Most of you probably play these already but if you haven't, give one a try; it's an easy way of talking to friends and can partially fulfill the hole left behind by a lack of social interaction.
6. Play Wii Sports
Gyms are now breeding grounds for bacteria but still want to keep fit at home? Wii Sports works online and is fun for the whole family.
7. Work out at home
As mentioned previously, gyms are breeding grounds for bacteria and most of them are closed at the moment. If you don't own Wii Sports, try doing a home workout with a yoga mat and some weights that you may have lying around.
8. Train your pet
It might be a fun opportunity to train your pet to do tasks such as shaking hands or rolling over. If you have a bird or fish, maybe refrain from teaching them this and try bonding with them instead by talking to them or simply just watching them.
9. Do some spring cleaning or organizing
You literally couldn't ask for a better opportunity or more motivation to clean and organize your room. It might be a cool idea to paint your walls a different colour or rearrange your furniture as well.
10. Watch some Disney movies
Reminisce on the good times when you were young and not stuck in quarantine by watching some old Disney movies. If you are privileged enough to own a Disney Plus account, spend some time watching movies like Tangled and empathize with Rapunzel as you now understand her situation minus the crazy stepmother.
12. Do a 1000 piece puzzle
Has anyone ever actually completed one of these? If you have one in your house try completing it with your family or better yet, on your own as you’ve probably seen them enough this Corona-cation.
13. Learn chess
If you grew up unaware of how to play chess now is your moment. Blow the dust of the old chessboard and get someone to teach you. If everyone in your house adamantly refuses, find a chess course on Youtube. For sixth formers, this is a great opportunity to get a headstart on the chess ladder in the ILC!
14. Learn how to edit videos
Extremely bored? Learn how to edit videos! This is a key skill and could be used throughout your life. Better yet, start a Youtube channel.
15. Keep a diary
Or don’t, your call.
16. Watch a virtual concert
Singers are uploading live streams of them singing so find your favorite artist and see if they have posted anything. If your favorite singer/band hasn’t posted anything, put your headphones in and listen to one of your favorite singers in 8d; it will feel like a concert even if the one you hoped to go to is cancelled.
17. Try Origami (cranes)
According to Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 paper cranes gives you a chance to make one special wish come true. Look up a Youtube tutorial and if you manage to make 1000 paper cranes, please wish for this god-awful virus to go away.
18. Bake/Cook
If your mum panic bought the shop, first of all, tell her off. Then, make something delicious out of whatever she bought. Once you have waded through a mountain of toilet rolls and acquired some ingredients, download the Supercook app on Google Play and the App Store and fill in the ingredients you have. The app will then match you with whatever recipes you can make with the ingredients you have.
19. Watch all the films that have won an Oscar for 'Best Picture'
Try catching up on the best movies ever made by watching your way every winner of the best picture award.
20. Yoga
Like meditation, this is another great stress reliever. If you already go to yoga, feel free to practice what you know. If not, look up a youtube tutorial.
21. Try a typing course
Surprisingly helpful in late life and will be another good thing to put on your CV.
22. Try to learn to do the splits
If you are really struggling with something to do, try to work on your flexibility. There are apps you can download to help you do this.
23. Learn a foreign language
If you already take a foreign language in school like French or Spanish. focus on honing in your skills. However, if you don't take a language, this is the best opportunity to learn a new one as a complete beginner. Apps like Duolingo help with this.
24. Calligraphy
If you have horrible handwriting now is an excellent chance to improve your writing. You can use an app or a tutorial on Youtube to help you out.
25. Update your CV
If you're around the age where you can apply for jobs, this may be a chance to either create a CV or update your old one. You can even look for templates online.
26. Nothing
Sometimes it's nice to just take a break. If you have homework or lesson work obviously complete that but don't try to fill a void of time if you do not want to. Stress for exams is over and the end is nigh. Take a break, sleep - you need it.
27. Ridicule this list
Everyone needs a little humor in their lives. In this time of crisis, we need to remember what's funny. Some of the suggestions on this list are obviously a bit stupid so remember to try to keep entertained.
If you have finished your schoolwork and need to pass the time feel free to do any of the suggestions on this list. Remember to stay safe, stay indoors and hopefully, it will all end soon.
