This year’s school show will have you belting out Queen classics - We Will Rock You!

Let one of this year’s performers tell you more and give you a sneak peak into the unique story line! Rock On!

We Will Rock You is about two star-crossed lovers, Galileo and Scaramouche, on a quest to save rock’n’roll in a dystopian future where free thought and creativity has been banned. This musical is a rock driven show set in 2120. It's a vision of what the world could look like in a century if we allow computer generated music to take over. The characters include two rebels, Galileo and Scaramouche. Killer Queen, Khashoggi and the Yuppies try to only have online created music, forcing a more controlled and digital society on its consumers. Scaramouche gets teased for her uniqueness at school but then meets the love of her life, Galileo. In this show, the lovers are both girls, but in the original production they are a boy and a girl. This has been a great chance to modernise the play and adapt it to 21st Century society!

Galileo is played by Myriam Gaultier whose favourite part of the role is that she gets to do a variety of scenes within the show. She actually auditioned for Scaramouche but was happy to play the role of Galileo again (after being in a year 8 production) as she’s really enjoying this part and the dynamics with her friend Hannah Rhodes (Scaramouche). She was asked, “If she could nominate anyone in the cast to play her role, who would it be?” she said Liam Gibson because he has the bubble personality of Galileo. Overall Myriam really enjoys playing her role and after you hear her belting out I Want to Break Free, you’ll see that she really deserved it.

Addison Chrisp plays Brit, who says he really enjoys playing someone else that’s not like him at all, meaning he had to really push his acting skills. He actually auditioned for the role of Galileo but he would play his role of Brit again because it enabled him to be over-the-top and exaggerated. If he wasn’t playing Brit, he would nominate Joe Morrison for this character’s role, because he thinks he could play the part really well.

Another star of the show is Libby Martin, who is playing the role of Khashoggi alongside Molly Elsdon - a single role that has been doubled up due to their fantastic auditions. Her favourite part of the role is that there is less dancing however Molly’s favourite part is that she gets to be dramatic and add her own flair to the role. Libby originally auditioned for Oz or Killer Queen and would happily play this role again. Molly auditioned for Scaramouche or Oz but would play this role again. If Libby wasn’t playing this part, she would nominate Charlotte Currie because she can play the role well and entertain people. Although Molly loves this role, she would nominate Phil Colling in Year 12 because he can play evil characters very well!

Where and when can you see this amazing performance?

Finally, this show is one of a kind because of the style of music and characters within it. It's unique because it is a jukebox musical - meaning the songs already existed. The tracks are all taken from the band Queen and you may be surprised how many words you know!

It is a great performance and the tickets are currently available on ParentMail for £5 and concessions for £4. This performance will take place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of March at 6pm in the Hub.
