The Life of Captain Sir Tom Moore

Captain Sir Tom Moore’s history

Captain Tom Moore was a man who one day decided he was going to do something during the Covid-19 pandemic. Every morning he went outside and did one lap of his back garden every day to raise money for the NHS. But before we talk about that we must talk about his past.

The Beginning

Tom was born in 1920 into a lovely family; his mother was a teacher and his father a builder; they lived in Keighley; he also lived with his pet dog Billy. He had named him after his uncle who was a motorbike racer, which fascinated him. Tom had always dreamed of having his own motorbike. Tom loved to bake too, he used to help his mum in the kitchen and if you couldn't find him there, he would be in the fields playing fetch with Billy.

School life

Tom was an amazing student but he was quite a mischievous boy. When he was twelve he brought his first motorbike to school and hid it in a bush, coming back at lunch to show it off to his friends. He didn’t just bring his bike to school either, he also brought his furry friend Billy!

War

When Tom was nineteen World War Two began and he knew that he would have to risk his life for his country. He sailed over to India in a boat with his crewmates and all of them became good friends. He saw many marvellous things like a spider as big as his hand. He fixed all of the crew's bikes and cars and met a famous singer. After the war was over Tom went back to his home.

Life and Love Life

Tom married a nice lady named Billie, but soon divorced her in 1949. After a long time of being alone he met Pamela, who lived quite far away from him but he made up excuses to go see her, and they got married in 1968. They had two daughters named Hannah and Lucie and, unlike other girls, they learned to fix cars and other machines. Their family grew and more children roamed the house where they lived (and two more dogs!) but one day Pamela died and everyone was devastated, yet Tom's family kept him busy and made days much more fun.

The Big Walk

When the coronavirus pandemic hit, Tom knew he had to help, and he did just that. Every morning, he went outside and walked a mile up and down his garden up until his 100 birthday. He was also knighted by the Queen! Then, Tom used the money he raised to give to charity.
