Is it Coming Home, Or Are England Going Out?

Updated: Jul 3

Recent performances from Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions have not been the best. They scraped a win against Serbia and drew both of their other group stage games. This makes me wonder whether this could affect them in future Euro games.

They have amazing players like Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham (who scored an absolute worldie against Slovakia in the 95th minute of the game to equalise!) More players like Trent-Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice and more amazing too. After Jude Bellingham scored the worldie, it went to extra time. 50 seconds in, a corner came in and it was headed out to Eberechi Eze. He took a pretty bad volley and it went to Toney, who headed it towards Harry Kane and it went in! Kane is England's hero once again. He saved the day again for England! Luckily, 30 minutes later the final whistle blew for full time and England were through to the Euros quarter finals. Phew!

Euro 2020

In previous tournaments England have had average performances. In Euro 2020 (played in 2021 because of Covid) the English reached the final where they would play Italy. Luke Shaw opened the scoring 2 minutes in but Bonucci then equalised in the 67th minute and the game went to extra time. Sadly this went to penalties where England lost 3-2.Penalties were missed by Saka, Rashford and Sancho.

World cup tournaments for the Three Lions.

In the 2018 world cup too. They got to the semi finals but were knocked out by Croatia (who then lost 4-2 in the final). They have 1 world cup and that was in 1966 when Geoff Hurst scored a hattrick but the Germans were not convinced that the 3rd goal went in as it went off the bar and the ref called it a goal. England won 4-2 and Bobby Moore lifted the trophy.

Now it's time for the question: Is it coming home or are they going home? The chances in the Quarter finals are a 44% chance for England, 31% chance of going to extra time and 25% for Switzerland to win. So, all the England fans are praying with their hands and legs crossed that we can get past the Swiss without any problem and if we do we will have to face either Netherlands, Austria, Turkey or Romania in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

The final will be held in Berlin-Germany where the stadium will be STACKED (probably with more people than seats!) When there's a goal you might want to cover your ears with the noise they make! Just imagine the scenes. Your country being in the Euros final against the best team in the competition. It's 0-0 in the last minute, your team has a corner, the Captain is up, the ball falls to him… and he SMASHES it into the top right corner to win your country the Euros, in the last 20 seconds of the competition. The man the country put their trust in has made sure he keeps all of the trust he has earned.
