How the current economic situation will affect us at school

Connor Thompson

The UK is currently in a period of economic decline which has meant that many families across the country are facing higher bills, higher food prices and lower amounts of money to spend.

This has affected nearly every person in the school in some way and many of us are now not being able to go out as much or maybe we aren’t able to buy as many sweets from the shops as items such as chocolate have seen a price increase of 25%.

Many of us in the Sixth Form have part-time jobs and drive cars, but with the dramatic increase in the price of fuel many of us are struggling to afford to keep our cars running and on the roads - just the other day I spent £75 on petrol, which is over half of my weekly wage!

Many of us will be heavily affected by this and because of this we need to be mindful of how we treat each other, what we say and make sure we treat each other with respect and kindness.

As the winter months approach make sure that, despite the colder weather, we are warm and welcoming to everyone in the school, no matter who they are, no matter if they’re your friend, no matter if they’re in your year group or not, we must make sure that everyone feels welcomed here at school.
