The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the name of their newborn baby boy as Louis Arthur Charles.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the name of their newborn baby boy as Louis Arthur Charles. The Royal Baby was born on Monday at 11:01am, weighing in at 8lbs 7oz after the Duchess had gone into labour earlier that morning.
Prince Louis was greeted By the media upon leaving hospital before being driven home by his father, Prince William, to apartment 1A at Kensington Palace only 7 hours after his birth. The Duke and Duchess’ elder two children, George and Charlotte, visited their mother and new brother in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London prior to their discharge.
The bookies favourite for the name had been Arthur which had been at just 2/1 with the middle name of Charles thought to be paying homage to the newborn’s grandfather, the Prince of Wales. Betting was suspended overnight after it was thought that the baby’s name was leaked due to a page having been created for a Prince Albert on the Royal Family website. The name Alfred was also in the running however it has been speculated that it was ruled out due to the developing case of ill toddler Alfie Evans.
It is thought that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will have been first to receive the news. Royal protocol usually requires the monarch to accept the name however it is unlikely that the Queen would go against the wishes of the Cambridges.
The news comes one day after it was announced that Prince William would be best man for Harry at his wedding to Meghan Markle on the 19th of May. It is currently unknown as to whether the new Prince will be present at the wedding. We are yet to see the Prince in any official photographs however Royal Commentators believe it is likely that the Duchess - a budding photographer - will release family photographs in the coming weeks and months.
