People generally think that dogs are pets or just an animal but there are some dogs who perform very important jobs including: water rescue and mountain rescue dogs. Mountain rescue dogs try to find people who are lost or stranded in mountain ranges or hills.There are many other dogs that do some amazing things to help all who need it.
Guide Dogs
Guide dog training lasts approximately 18 months from birth. They learn many things when
training such as: stopping at turns and steps, walking centrally along the pavement whilst avoiding obstacles and crossing roads but it is up to the owner where and when they do. Guide dogs can be many different breeds from Golden Retrievers to German Shepherds, they can be small like a poodle or large like a Greyhound. Most breeds of dog can be a guide dog. The most common breeds are: Labrador, German Shepherd and Golden Retriever.
Water Rescue Dogs
Water rescue dogs are trained to swim towards the person who is in danger, who grabs the handle on the dog's life jacket and is dragged to safety. If the victim is unconscious then they can sometimes flip them over onto their backs. The best breeds for swimming and water activities are: the Portuguese Water Dog, Poodle and Labrador Retriever.
Police Dogs
Police dog training lasts 4-6 months although German Shepherd Police Dogs take longer to train usually depending on their personality. Police Dogs are trained to obey the commands of the officer so that they don't hesitate or make a mistake if they were trying to save someone. The best breeds of dog to be a Police Dog are: the German Shepherd, Beagle and Belgian Malinois. The best features of a Police Dog include: intelligence, aggression, strength and sense of smell.
Dogs help us in many different ways and it is important that we respect them. After all, they are called man's best friend!
